Israeli Prime Minister continues his state of confusion: posting a tweet criticizing Israeli army and intelligence then deletes it and apologizes
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized for a tweet in which he held the army and intelligence responsible for failing to predict Hamas’s attack.
Netanyahu was subjected to harsh criticism that forced him to delete it shortly after its publication.
Netanyahu wrote on X, “I was wrong… What I said after the press conference shouldn’t have been said and I apologize for that”.
He added, “I fully support all the heads of the security services, and I strongly support the Chief of Staff and the leaders and soldiers of the IDF who are on the front lines and fighting for the homeland”.
Haaretz newspaper reported that Netanyahu, on Saturday, claimed that he hadn’t received a warning about Hamas’ intentions to start a war against Israel, and blamed the security services, especially the head of the Israeli army’s military intelligence, Aharon Haliva, and the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, in the failure that led to war.
Netanyahu had written on his official account on X that all intelligence agencies estimated that the Hamas movement had been deterred following previous wars and was moving toward a settlement.
He added that this intelligence assessment was presented to him time after time, even before the outbreak of war.
After the tweet, Netanyahu was subjected to harsh criticism from inside and outside the government, after he evaded any responsibility for the failure in the face of Hamas’ surprise attack on October 7.
On Saturday evening, Netanyahu held the first press conference following the outbreak of the war with Hamas.
During the conference, he refused to bear any part of the responsibility for the failure, and also evaded a question posed to him by a journalist in this regard.
He simply said, “After the war ends, we all have to provide answers to the difficult questions”.
