Israel Hayom: concerns over the increasing arms smuggling from Syria to Jordan
According to the Israel Hayom newspaper, the escalating arms smuggling operations from Syria to Jordan have raised Israel’s concern and prompted it to take measures to prepare for an attack scenario.
The Israeli newspaper explained that the Israeli army fundamentally changed its operational deployment on the border with Jordan, following a significant increase in weapons smuggling from Jordan and fears of Iranian-sponsored “terrorist attacks” that could occur along the border in 2024.
Israel Hayom described the confrontations that took place between the Jordanian army and smugglers on the Syrian border as dangerous, stressing that Iranian-backed forces are trying to infiltrate Jordan from both Iraq and Syria.
Israel Hayom indicated that the Israeli army’s concern at the present time is not related to the Jordanian army directing its weapons against Israel, but it’s preparing for a dangerous scenario in which Iranian militias succeed in infiltrating Jordan through Syria, and then attack Israel from there.
According to Israeli military source, “The main scenario that Israel is preparing for is attempts by Hezbollah or other pro-Iranian militias to infiltrate from the Jordanian border into one of the communities near the border”.
