Russian forces carried out at least ten air strikes targeting vital facilities in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, the region’s governor said Thursday.

“The occupiers directed at least ten strikes on vital facilities in the city of Kharkiv and the region,” Oleg Sinigubov wrote on Telegram, noting that no casualties were recorded.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov explained via Telegram that the Russian army used missiles to strike the second most populous Ukrainian city.

The Ukrainian Air Force said earlier that about nine Russian Tu-95MS strategic bombers were flying in the air and were suspected of preparing to launch missiles towards Ukraine.

“Considering who the Russian aggressor is targeting, Kharkiv may experience problems with energy supply,” Terekhov wrote in a previous message on Telegram.

The governor of the region said on Thursday morning that measures had been taken to address the power outage.

In the Zaporizhia region in the south of the country, Governor Ivan Fedorov noted that explosions were heard on Thursday morning.

A Ukrainian Air Force commander said on Thursday that air defenses destroyed 18 missiles and 39 drones launched by Russia during the night.

The commander said on Telegram that Russia launched 82 missiles and drones, adding that the Lviv region in western Ukraine was the main target of the attack.

Moscow has been intensively targeting Ukrainian energy facilities in recent months and launching some of the largest air strikes in the war that has been ongoing for more than two years.

Two regions in Ukraine were targeted with missiles on Wednesday, killing seven people, according to local authorities.

In addition, Igor Artamonov, the governor of the Russian Lipetsk Oblast, said that a drone fell on a hospital under construction in the Lipetsk region early Thursday, causing a fire that was quickly extinguished.

Artamonov added in a post on Telegram that there were no injuries or damage.
