Hürriyet: Washington is inclined to withdraw not only from Syria but from the entire Middle East
The Turkish Hürriyet newspaper reported that there is concern among the Turkish authorities due to news indicating plans to withdraw US forces from Syria, as it believes that there is an intention from Washington to withdraw from the Middle East in general.
According to a previous report from Foreign Policy magazine, which quoted sources in the US State Department and the Pentagon, they indicated that the White House no longer considers the US presence in Syria necessary, and the US administration is studying ways to withdraw forces, although no final decision has been made yet, and the White House responded, and later denied this information.
Hürriyet newspaper, citing sources in the Turkish Ministry of Defense, said that reports about US plans to withdraw forces from the region should be treated with caution, and official statements and concrete steps in this regard should be awaited.
Hürriyet pointed out that the United States realized that it had become involved in the conflicts in the Middle East between Israel and Iran, and that it had made a mistake in providing unconditional support to Israel, especially after the Hamas attack on Gaza, which led to the spread of these conflicts to the region from the Red Sea to Pakistan.
In this context, the United States began to search for a solution to the problem.
Türkiye accuses the United States of repeatedly sponsoring and supporting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and its Syrian branch, considering that this policy conflicts with the alliance relations between the two countries.
The Turkish authorities consider the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and the Kurdish forces in Syria the main threats to Turkish national security, and since 2015, the Turkish army has been implementing Periodic operations against Kurdish militants in northern Syria.
