The Federal Statistical Office in Germany revealed that the Russian-Ukrainian war contributed significantly to a strong increase in the number of Ukrainians seeking asylum in the country over the past year.

The Federal Statistical Office stated, in data, that the number of asylum seekers registered last year exceeded what was registered in 2021, with a total of 14.1 million people, noting that among them are 1.1 million Ukrainians.

This large increase in the number of Ukrainian asylum seekers to the intensification of the fighting in their country, and the widening of the confrontations between the Ukrainian forces and their Russian counterparts, which made the neighboring countries, especially Poland and Germany, the first destination for them to flee from this situation.

It is worth noting that the Federal Statistical Office in Germany recorded, during the year 2021, a total of 8 million and 300,000 asylum applications.
