German Chancellor: Increasing defense spending poses a major challenge to the German budget

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that increasing the level of German defense spending would pose a major challenge to the entire country’s budget.
He added in a speech before at the Bundestag, “The security issue poses a major challenge to the country, and on the other hand, ensuring the country’s security poses a challenge to our budget”.
Scholz hinted that the Ukrainian conflict constitutes a turning point that forces Germany to reconsider its security policy.
He stressed that Berlin provides the necessary military, financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, noting that it isn’t known until now how long it will have to provide it yet.
German media indicated earlier, Wednesday, that the ruling German coalition submitted a new draft budget for the country for the year 2024, which provides for spending cuts in almost all areas except for defense.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered the supply of weapons by NATO countries to Ukraine as a playing with fire and an incitement that fuels the crisis, undermines chances for peace, and may lead to the outbreak of a nuclear war.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also warned Western countries against supplying weapons to Ukraine, and vowed to crush them on Ukrainian soil.
