European Union countries refuse to participate in the Damascus conference on refugees

The European Union’s head of diplomacy, Josep Borrell, announced on Tuesday, that the countries of the Union will not participate in an international conference on refugees and displaced persons to be hosted by Damascus on November 11 and 12.

Borrell confirmed that the foreign ministers of a number of bloc countries and he himself received an invitation to participate in the conference held in the Syrian capital to discuss the issue of the return of refugees and internally displaced persons to their homes. 

He added, “The European Union and its member states will not attend this conference”.
