Çavuşoğlu: Türkiye supports Armenia and Azerbaijan’s mutual recognition of territorial integrity
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Friday, that Türkiye supports the mutual recognition between Armenia and Azerbaijan of their territorial integrity.
The Turkish Foreign Minister described the statements of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the issue of mutual recognition of territorial integrity as positive.
Çavuşoğlu said, “Armenia expresses its willingness to recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and the statements received on the issue of mutual recognition are positive, and we support them”.
He added, “Azerbaijan proposed to Armenia to sign a comprehensive peace agreement, and if the latter agrees, negotiations will take place as soon as possible and the signing will take place, and Türkiye will take positive steps in this regard”.
Çavuşoğlu stressed that Türkiye wants peace to be achieved in the region and in particular the Caucasus.
Last Monday, the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, expressed his willingness to recognize the Nagorno Karabakh region as part of the Azerbaijan sovereign lands.
From his part, the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said on Thursday that there is a tendency to normalize relations with Armenia on the basis of territorial integrity and mutual recognition of sovereignty.
