
The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced, on Saturday, that at least five workers were killed in an explosion at a missile and explosives factory in the capital, Ankara.
The explosion occurred at around 8:45 AM local time, at the compound of the state-owned mechanical and chemical industries company on the outskirts of the capital.
The Ministry of Defense said in a brief statement posted on Twitter that the explosion occurred at the MKE missile and explosives factory, killing five workers.
The statement confirmed that a judicial and administrative investigation has been launched into the incident, and the cause of the explosion wasn’t immediately known.
Several ambulances and fire trucks were dispatched to the area, and an investigation was opened to find out the cause of the explosion.
According to the Turkish media, the windows of shops and homes in the surrounding areas were shattered as results of the blast force.
The workers’ relatives rushed to the compound to get news of their relatives.
