Another Israeli missiles strike on the Syrian Capital

The Syrian army’s air defenses responded on Sunday, to an Israeli missile attack on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The official Syrian media quoted a Syrian military source as saying that missile strikes coming from the direction of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights targeted several unspecified sites.

“Our air defenses intercepted the aggression’s missiles and shot down some of them, and the losses were limited to material,” the military source said.

Israel has for years carried out attacks on what it says are Iranian-linked targets in Syria, where Tehran’s influence has grown since it began supporting President Bashar al Assad in a civil war that began in 2011.

Israeli military experts say the strikes are part of an escalation of what has been a low-intensity conflict aimed at slowing Iran’s growing entrenchment in Syria.

Militants loyal to Iran, including the Hezbollah group, currently control vast areas in eastern, southern and northwest Syria and in several suburbs around the capital.
