A US Veto against Palestine’s membership in the United Nations
During the UN Security Council session on Thursday, the United States vetoed the draft resolution submitted by Algeria to accept Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations.
The project was voted in favor of 12 out of 15 members, while Britain and Switzerland abstained from voting, and the United States decisively opposed the project.
The project aims to enable Palestine to become a full member of the United Nations, but the United States used its Veto power to prevent the resolution from being issued.
This measure is considered a major obstacle to Palestine’s efforts to achieve its international rights.in the United Nations.
The Palestinian presidency strongly condemned this decision and described it as an attack on international law, stressing that US policy encourages persecution against the Palestinian people and undermines the chances of achieving peace and justice in the region.
For its part, Hamas considered the United States’ use of its Veto against the resolution a “blatant attack,” calling on the international community to confront such actions and support the rights of the Palestinian people.
Russia’s representative in the Council spoke of a “desperate attempt” to change the course of history through the use of the Veto, stressing that history will not forgive the United States for its actions.
At the conclusion of the session, the importance of supporting the Palestinian cause and realizing its legitimate rights in the international community was emphasized, emphasizing that the time has come to achieve the required change in this regard.
