A former Venezuelan diplomat is running to compete with Maduro in the presidential elections

A little-known former Venezuelan diplomat vowed Sunday to represent “those who want change” and won’t agree to challenge President Nicolas Maduro in July’s presidential election.

Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia issued his first election messages a day after he won his election and changed the opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado, who is widely popular but banned from running by a judicial decision loyal to Maduro.

“I accept the responsibility and choose everyone who wants to change at will,” Gonzalez Urrutia wrote on social media.
