6 candidates were eligible to run for the presidential elections in Iran


On Sunday, the Iranian Interior Ministry announced the names of the candidates eligible to run in the fourteenth presidential elections, and they are: Saeed Jalili, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Alireza Zakani, Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi, Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, and Masoud Pezeshkian.


Saeed Jalili

Date of birth: 1965 in Mashhad.

Previous positions: Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and head of the Iranian nuclear negotiating team with Western countries (2007-2013).

Previous presidential candidacy: He ran in the 2013 presidential election, where he received more than 4 million votes and came in third.

Current positions: Member of the Expediency Council and representative of the Leader of the Revolution in the Supreme National Security Council.
2021 presidential election: Withdrew in favor of Ebrahim Raisi two days before the election.


Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf

Date of birth: September 16, 1961 in Mashhad.

Previous positions: Commander of the Khatam al Anbiya Construction Headquarters (1994), Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Air Force (1997), Commander of the Police Force (2000).

Mayor: Mayor of Tehran for 12 years.

Parliamentary positions: Representative of the people of Tehran in the Eleventh Assembly and Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly.

Presidential candidacy: Ran in the presidential elections in 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2021. He withdrew in the 2017 tournament in favor of Ebrahim Raisi.

Current positions: Representative of Tehran in the Twelfth Parliament and Speaker of Parliament with 198 votes.


Masoud Pezeshkian

Date of birth: 29 September 1954 in Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province.

Previous positions: Minister of Health in Mohammad Khatami’s second government.

Parliamentary positions: Representative of the people of Tabriz in the Islamic Consultative Assembly in the eighth to twelfth sessions, and First Deputy Speaker of the Assembly in the tenth session.

2021 presidential election: Registered to run but not approved by the Guardian Council.


Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi

Date of birth: December 25, 1959 in Qom.

Career beginnings: He began his career as Prosecutor of the Islamic Revolution Court in 1979.

Previous positions: Prosecutor General of Khuzestan, Hormozgan, Kermanshah and Khorasan, Deputy Minister of Intelligence (1997-1999), Minister of Interior (Ninth Government), Minister of Justice (2013-2017).

Current positions: Secretary General of the Mujahideen Clerics Association and President of the Islamic Revolution Documentation Center.


Alireza Zakani

Date of birth: March 3, 1966 in Tehran.

Academic Positions: Faculty member at Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

Parliamentary positions: Representative of the people of Tehran in the seventh, eighth and ninth sessions, and representative of the people of Qom in the eleventh session.

Other responsibilities: Head of the Research Center of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and member of the Central Council of the Islamic Association of Students of the University of Tehran.

Current positions: Mayor of Tehran since 2021 and Assistant to President Ebrahim Raisi since 2023.


Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi

Date of birth: April 14, 1971 in Freeman.

Current positions: Vice President and President of the Martyr and Veterans Foundation in the thirteenth government since 2021.

Parliamentary positions: A representative of Mashhad and agencies in the eighth to tenth parliamentary terms, and was Deputy Speaker of the Eleventh Parliament.

Previous presidential candidacy: He won fourth place in the thirteenth presidential election.

As for the election campaign, it will begin on June 12 and last for two weeks, with elections held on June 28.

The registration process began on May 30, after Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and others were killed in a helicopter crash while returning from the east of the country, near Azerbaijan.
