The US trade deficit in goods jumps 7.1% in January

The US trade deficit in goods rose sharply in January as companies continued to refill their depleted inventories.

The US Commerce Department said on Monday that the merchandise trade deficit jumped 7.1% to $107.6 billion last month.

Retail inventories rose 1.9%, while wholesale inventories rose 0.8%.
