Pedersen: I sensed with US, European and Arab officials an openness to start communication with Damascus

The UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, said that during his talks with Arab, US and European officials, he saw “a possibility to start exploring a gradual approach to openness to communication with Syria”.

On Sunday, the United Nations envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, revealed in press statements following his meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad, in Damascus, that he discovered during his talks with Arab, US and European officials the existence of a possibility for their country to open up to communication with Syria.

“During my discussions with Arab, US and European officials, I saw the possibility of starting a gradual approach to openness to communication with Syria”.

Pedersen added, “No date has been set for the next round of meetings of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, and I will follow up today’s meetings with the head of the government delegation to the committee”.
